Research Involving Human Participation

Required documentation to submit publications derived from studies involving humans

  1. Certification from an authorized CEISH (Comité de Ética de Investigación en Seres Humanos)

    Applies to:

    • Observational/original studies: cohorts, case-control, cross-sectional, ecological, case series, case reports, and multicenter studies.
    • Experimental studies: clinical trials.
  2. Approval letter from ARCSA (Agencia Nacional de Regulación, Control y Vigilancia Sanitaria)

    • Required only for clinical trials.

  3. Informed consent

    • Required only for case reports (according to this specific editorial policy).

Important

All research involving human participation must obligatorily comply with the national regulations of the Comisión Nacional de Bioética en Salud (CNBS)—including the Clinical Trials Regulation, the Informed Consent Regulation, and the Regulation on the Use of Genetic Material—as well as with current international standards, such as the Declaration of Helsinki, the CIOMS International Ethical Guidelines, and the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights.

Formatting and Manuscript Preparation Guidelines

General Format

  • Page size: A4
  • Margins: 2.5 cm on all sides
  • Font: Times New Roman, size 12
  • Line spacing: 1.5
  • Text alignment: Justified
  • Numbering: Footer
  • Length: Between 10 and 20 pages
  • Unnumbered sections: "Conflict of Interest", "Acknowledgments", and "References"
  • Recommended template: Manuscript Template

Key Elements of the Manuscript

  • Title, abstract, and keywords: Must be in both Spanish and English.
  • Authors: Names must appear below the title, separated by commas and with superscript numbering.
  • Affiliations: Indicated using superscript numbering.

Citations and References

  • Citations and references must follow APA format (7th edition).
  • Footnotes and page headers should not contain references.
  • Authors are encouraged to review previous articles in the journal to ensure proper citation style.

Figures, Tables, and Equations

Figures and Tables:

  • Each figure and table must have a descriptive title with the following format:
    • Figure #: Description of the figure
    • Table #: Description of the table
  • They must appear in the text in sequential order.
  • Use a single horizontal line at the top to separate column titles and another at the bottom to close the table.

Equations, Symbols, and Units:

Equations can be written in two ways:

  • Inline equations: When equations are short and simple, such as x = [(7+y)/z)]½, they may be integrated into the text. Ensure that these equations align with the text line. Otherwise, use the display equation format.
  • Display equations: Display equations should be used when inline inclusion hinders readability or when they are referenced elsewhere in the document. These must be sequentially numbered, placing the equation number in parentheses aligned to the right margin.

Use of Appendices

  • An appendix is appropriate for including relatively short materials that can be easily presented in print format.
  • If the document contains only one appendix, it should be labeled “Appendix.”
  • If there are several, each must be identified with a capital letter (e.g., “Appendix A,” “Appendix B”), following the order in which they are cited in the text.
  • Each appendix must begin on a separate page, placed after the References, Endnotes, Tables, and Figures sections.
  • The appendix content may include text, tables, figures, or a combination of these elements.

Manuscript Structure

Revista Colincing de Estudios Multidisciplinarios suggests the following organization for articles. However, if the content warrants it, authors may make modifications to the structure, providing an explanation for these changes in a comment addressed to the editor.

1. Title

Must accurately reflect the topic of the study. It should be written in bold, centered, and with the first letter of each word capitalized. The maximum allowed length is 18 words.

2. Author(s)

Author names should be centered, in bold, and separated by commas. To avoid database errors and citation loss, it is recommended to use first name without initials and one last name. If two last names are used, consider using only the first or hyphenating them (Example: Elena Bargas, Lucía Pérez-García).

3. Affiliations

Should appear right after the list of authors, indicating the affiliated institution without abbreviations. Include the name of the institution, faculty (optional), department (optional), city, country, and postal code. The corresponding author must be identified with an asterisk (*) and provide their email. Authors and affiliations cannot be modified once the manuscript has been registered in the system.

4. Abstract

Should be written in a single paragraph, not exceeding 250 words. It must include five key elements:

  1. Brief introduction highlighting the importance of the topic or issue.
  2. Main objective of the study.
  3. General description of the methods used.
  4. Most relevant results, with values and clear indication of statistical significance, if applicable.
  5. Conclusion based on the results.

Do not include figures, tables, equations, or references in the abstract.

5. Keywords

Provide four to five keywords, separated by commas and arranged in alphabetical order. General terms from the UNESCO Thesaurus are recommended, and at least some should appear in the title.

6. Introduction

Clearly and structurally present the background and justification of the study. Use relevant and recent references (not older than five years, except for classical citations). The objective and hypothesis should be presented at the end of this section.

7. Methodology

Provide sufficient details to allow replication of the study. Describe the experimental design and reference the biological, analytical, and statistical procedures used. For field research where environmental factors cannot be strictly controlled (e.g., production trials), repeating the experiment in different periods or locations is recommended to obtain more representative results.

8. Results

Findings should be presented clearly and concisely, supported by tables and figures when necessary. Avoid repeating in-text values already shown in graphics. Include variability and/or statistical significance indicators to aid interpretation.

9. Discussion (optional)

Analyze the results by comparing them with previous studies and highlighting their contributions and limitations. Address each finding separately and avoid praise. Answer the following:

  • What is the relevance of the results?
  • What do these findings mean in the context of the study area?

This section may be combined with the results presentation if the author considers it appropriate.

10. Conclusions

Must directly respond to the study's objectives and be based on the data obtained. Avoid speculation and do not suggest future research beyond the study’s scope. Do not include abbreviations, acronyms, or references.

11. Conflict of Interest

Authors must declare whether any conflicts of interest related to the research exist. If so, specify their nature.

12. Funding Source

Indicate the entity that funded the study. If the research was self-funded, state this explicitly.

13. Author Contributions (CRediT)

To properly acknowledge each author's contribution, specify their role according to the CRediT Taxonomy (Contributor Role Taxonomy). Make sure to detail contributions under the following categories:

Role Description
Conceptualization Idea development and formulation of general objectives.
Methodology Method design and model development.
Software Software development, code, and algorithm implementation.
Validation Verification of result and experiment reproducibility.
Formal Analysis Application of statistical, mathematical, or computational techniques.

Writing – Review & Editing Critical review and manuscript editing.
Funding Acquisition Securing research funding.
Project Administration Project management and supervision.
Resources Provision of materials, equipment, or necessary supplies.
Supervision Direction and guidance of the research team.

14. Acknowledgments (optional)

Authors may include a brief section to acknowledge relevant external contributions.

15. References

Include recent publications (not older than five years, unless classical references). Provide the DOI or permanent link whenever possible.

  • Format: APA 7th edition.
  • Line spacing of 1.5 with hanging indentation.
  • Alphabetical order by the first author's last name.

16. Figures

Figures must include clear and self-explanatory titles to facilitate understanding.
