Editorial Process
Preliminaries
Once the manuscript is received, the following verification will be carried out:
- Similarity check using plagiarism detection software and compliance with editorial standards
- Preliminary evaluation of relevance by the editor (pre-review).
The reception of articles does not guarantee their publication. Editors and reviewers select those that meet the criteria for publication.
The editor may reject an article without peer review if it does not meet the format, editorial line, or has serious structural flaws.
Review Procedure and Editorial Decision
Based on the traditional system of DOUBLE-BLIND PEER REVIEW:
- Reviewer Selection: External reviewers are selected, preferably holding a PhD and not affiliated with the same institution as the authors.
- Reviewer Evaluation: Reviewers analyze the manuscript according to criteria established by the journal, generate comments, and issue a verdict prior to publication. The reviewer will submit their decision using the Scientific Article Evaluation Form.
- Editorial Committee Decision: Based on the evaluation, the Editorial Committee may accept the article without modifications, request minor or major modifications, or reject it:
- Acceptance (with modifications): If the article is accepted with modifications, the authors must revise it according to the reviewers’ suggestions and comments. There may be several rounds of revision until the requirements are met. For proper follow-up, the author must use the correction response log.
- Rejection: If the article is rejected, the author will be informed of the reasons.
- Modifications: The author will receive the evaluations to address the comments. If the modifications are significant, the article will be sent again to the same reviewers. The Editorial Committee will make the final decision after receiving the revised version.
Important:
Deadlines: Reviewers have up to 15 days for the first evaluation; authors have two weeks for revisions; and, if a second review is needed, it will take up to two more weeks.
Additional Review: If one reviewer accepts and another rejects the article, a third reviewer will decide its acceptance or rejection.
Review and Acceptance: The editorial team will verify that the final version complies with the journal's standards.
Editorial Review and Author Approval
Proofreading and layout: A proofreader will review the document to ensure grammatical and spelling accuracy. Then, a layout designer will adjust the format for optimal presentation in the journal.
Change validation (author): The changes made must be approved by the author before publication. To do so, the author must submit a signed document, either individually or as a single file with all authors’ signatures.
Important:
At the author’s request, once peer review is complete, a pre-print may be published until editing and layout are finalized. The document will clearly indicate its status as a preprint.
Publication and Quality Control
The editorial team of the journal publishes the manuscripts in PDF and HTML formats once the editorial process is complete. Subsequently, an external reviewer verifies that each document complies with editorial quality standards.
Finally, a professional who is part of the editorial team (anonymous), and external to Colincing, is responsible for verifying that all manuscripts meet the journal's editorial rigor.
